After an impressively successful trip to Canazei, with, at best, a 50% chance of getting the hotel we booked, we now settle into a series of heatwaves, whilst I trawl through options for the 2027 trip, and for 2027, after a brief consideration of a week in Söll, we are now confirmed as heading to the party town of Austria, Mayrhofen, in the Ziller Valley.

Mayrhofen offers a offers a modest 142km ski area, split between Ahorn and Penken, but just a 30 min bus ride is the Hintertux glacier, presumably melted by the time we get there, if they've had a summer like ours. The Zillertaler Superskipass allows us to ski 530km of the entire valley, and this is typically open until the middle of April, plus all year round skiing on the glacier.

For those that have the energy after dinner, or before, our hotel this year is well positioned in the middle of town, with the 2 primary lifts just 300m and 500m away, and the ski shuttle bus stop directly outside the hotel front door, or so they say. Please feel free to follow the link above, and check out the facilities of our traditional family run hotel, which can trace its history back to 1643. I am advised that they've redecorated since then, and installed WiFi. The deal includes breakfast and 4 course dinner for the week, and 2 sharing each room, with private facilities, for the price of only £1,260 per head, which also includes flights and transfers. The hotel has a spa, outdoor pool, and sauna, which I believe we have access to for an additional price.

The lift pass is not cheap, but as for last year, for those that confirm before 2nd Aug 2026, I can obtain 2 for 1 lift passes, so please confirm as soon as you can!

It also helps if you can try to bring a partner, or travel buddy, as rooms are typically for 2. If not, you will be allocated to share with one of the other singles, of which we have a handful every year. It is a sociable trip. Depending on numbers, there is a small chance you may be in a triple room, but we try to avoid that, for your own comfort.
